Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Sets World Best Time in 400m Hurdles

Olympic and world champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone returned to the 400m hurdles with a spectacular performance, posting a year-best time of 52.70 seconds at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet in Atlanta. It was her first race in the event in almost two years, having focused on the 400m in 2023 and missed the World Championships due to injury ( Olympics ) ( worldathletics.org ).

Despite putting in an impressive performance, McLaughlin-Levrone acknowledged there was still room for improvement, especially in hurdle practice. “I’m just shaking off the rust after two years, I’ll take a 52.7. There are things to work on, we haven’t had a lot of hurdle practice so there’s a lot to improve on,” she said in a trackside interview.  ( worldathletics.org ) .

In addition to her triumphant return, McLaughlin-Levrone is set to face Dutch world champion Femke Bol, who is scheduled to begin her 400m hurdles season at the Stockholm Diamond League ( worldathletics.org ). This race marks the ninth best of McLaughlin-Levrone's career and sets a strong pace for the season leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.  ( worldathletics.org ) .

McLaughlin-Levrone’s victory not only highlights his unrivalled ability, but also sets the stage for a competitive season with high expectations for his upcoming races.
